AI Decision Notice

1. What Automated Decision-Making Technology We Use

EmpathySystem uses AI-powered technology in the following ways:

  • Seth AI Companion: A conversational AI assistant that provides general guidance, resource suggestions, encouragement, and document assistance (e.g., resume drafting, letter writing).
  • Resource Matching: AI-assisted matching of participants to relevant local resources, programs, and services based on their stated goals and needs.
  • Life Transition Index (LTI): An AI-informed metric that tracks participant progress across well-being dimensions to help case managers identify areas where support may be needed.
  • Appointment Suggestions: AI-assisted scheduling suggestions based on participant availability and service provider openings.

2. What Personal Information Is Used

Our AI features only access personal information that you have explicitly authorized through your consent settings. This may include:

  • Your stated goals and progress updates
  • Documents you have uploaded to your Wallet
  • Your conversation history with Seth
  • Check-in responses you have provided
  • Your preferred language and communication style

AI features never access information in consent buckets you have restricted. You can review and modify your consent settings at any time through your Privacy & Consent settings.

3. What Outputs Are Generated

Our AI technology generates:

  • Conversational responses and guidance
  • Resource and service recommendations
  • Draft documents (resumes, letters, applications)
  • Goal progress summaries
  • Scheduling suggestions

Important: AI outputs are recommendations only. No AI output is used to make decisions about your eligibility for benefits, services, or opportunities. All significant decisions involve human review.

4. How to Opt Out

You have the right to opt out of AI-powered features at any time. To opt out:

  • In Settings: Go to your Settings page and toggle "Seth AI Assistance" off in the AI Preferences section.
  • Contact Us: Email support@empathysystem.ai and request to opt out of AI features.
  • Ask Your Case Manager: Your case manager can disable AI features on your behalf.

Opting out takes effect immediately. You can opt back in at any time.

5. Alternative Process Without AI

If you opt out of AI features, you will still have full access to all platform services:

  • Your case manager will provide resource matching and guidance directly
  • You can use the resource directory to search for services manually
  • Document storage, community feed, and all other features remain available
  • Check-ins, goal tracking, and coin rewards continue to work as normal

The only difference is that Seth will not be available for conversational assistance, and resource suggestions will come from your case manager rather than AI.

6. Non-Retaliation Statement

We will never penalize, discriminate against, or reduce the quality of service provided to any participant who chooses to opt out of AI-powered features. Your decision to use or not use AI features has no impact on your eligibility for services, your relationship with your case manager, or your standing on the platform.
